Kids Art Workshops
Beginning in the Fall of 2007, as kids were returning to school after summer vacation, many MAFA members volunteered to create an “Interactive Arts Station” during the Foothill Unity Networks Back-to-School Event at Santa Anita Racetrack. Children from disadvantaged families in the area go to Santa Anita to receive supplies, clothing, backpack and even haircuts in preparation for their return to school. MAFA has provided art supplies so that these children could participate in an art activity and have a beautiful piece of artwork children might never get to enjoy normally, whether it be for lack of disposable income, low appreciation of the arts or low exposure to this type activity. MAFA members have helped several hundred children every year since then to create a masterpiece of their own to take home and showed parents attending the event that art is interesting, important and fun for their children. MAFA has annually and proudly sustained program since 2007.
MAFA has also served the SGV communities at large with Art Workshops at the YMCA, City of Hope, the Girl Scouts, Teens, Seniors, Pre-schools and many other organizations in the past and hopes to expand the horizons of our outreach program in the coming year.
